Thanks to everybody who showed up in support of our Tarnius Music Artist Showcase this weekend at the Nomad in Minneapolis. It was a really great show and I had a blast. Estate and Nobot were really impressive live and the crowd (including me!) loved it. It was great to see a lot of old friends again, listen to a killer show, and take another fun and interesting step with Tarnius. Plans are already in the works for another show, so if you missed the first one you might not be out of luck! I'm sure I'll be reporting as more details surface...

Sorry, I’m back to my old habits again….the killer of it is that I keep coming across all this great stuff I want to write about, but I’m always so damn busy that it’s hard to make any time.  Same goes for my music.  I’ve got notebooks full of songs, many of which are completely finished – that is I’ve written out lyrics, chords, bass lines, piano on a few; I even know the drum patterns and lead guitar lines I want to take on them.  My recording equipment is somewhat busted up and dismantled at the moment, but even before that happened it seemed damn-near impossible to find any spare time.

It’s unfortunate that the things you love tend to get pushed aside as you get older.  I love to play guitar and make music, and rarely get a chance to practice, let alone record.  I’ve got stacks of books piling up that I want to read.  I love (LOVE!) to fish, and never used to miss a weekend, yet I made it out maybe 3 times all of last year and have yet to hit the water this year.

I guess I can try to find a silver lining and say that it makes you appreciate those good times all the more.  I’ve got about ten more minutes before I force myself back to work for hour 13 on the day.  I think I’ll go split it between my ol’ six-string and some Dostoevsky instead of continuing this little piece of venting for my non-existent audience….if you’re not a figment of my imagination then I’d suggest you follow my lead.

I made a bunch of updates today, so take a look around. I threw some writings into the "Lyrics & Writings," including the semi-infamous "Some steadfast rules for many (not all) Columbia College Students" listed under Other. This was a MySpace blog originally about obnoxious people at Columbia, and I found it to be hysterical...others may have disagreed. Although, it was a long time ago and now I realize that I have to retract #2 because Katey likes me to pop the collar on my coat...but I have to say, it's different. I'm not wearing a polo shirt with the collar popped up to my upside-down, side-cocked Kangol visor. That's different.

I'm sick of winter, damn it. Every time we get a little tease of half-decent weather, our hopes are snatched away like Twinkies at fat camp. I love Chicago. I think it's the greatest city in the world. However, when the gray, slushy, gloomy, shit-tastic days of February in Chicago find themselves getting comfortable in late March, I start getting pissed. If the sun doesn't show up soon, I'm going to be forced to turn into a super-villain and invent a weather machine. And the first person to complain about the heat will be promptly punched in the face and fed to my evil henchmen. That is all.

So I officially haven't done anything on this site in about 2 years...oops.

Anyways, don't expect much and you won't be disappointed :)

I am going to try to update everything more frequently...maybe come on here and gripe about the world once in a while (when needed).

Other than that, have a look around and I hope you enjoy!

About Me

...a little bit, anyways...

I'm 26 years old (or so they tell me) and I live outside of Chicago. I am happily involved with a wonderful and beautiful young lady named Katey who is awaiting canonization for putting up with me. I love to play guitar, travel, fish, read, hang out with my close friends, and do anything outdoors, though I rarely have time to do any of those. In addition to some freelance consulting, I'm the founder and president of Tarnius Music Inc., an independent music website. We are the best place online to buy and sell independent music of all types (<- shameless plug). I'm also a musician and writer of songs, stories, and poems, but I don't take myself too seriously at any of the above and rarely have the time to practice them these days. I got my B.A. in 2000 from St. Mary's University, Winona, MN where I majored in Music Technology and Music Business with minors in General Business, Music, and Philosophy. I got my M.A.M. in 2007 from Columbia College Chicago, focusing in Arts, Entertainment, and Media Management (AEMM) - Music Business and Entrepreneurship (a ridiculously long title, I know). I'm a music nut, particularly the blues and Bob Dylan....and that's really all I can think of.
